If you’re feeling tired, overwhelmed, or disconnected from your own inner wisdom — you’re not alone.

At Onward Light, we offer gentle, accessible yoga and meditation classes designed to help you slow down, reconnect, and gently orient toward what feels supportive and real. Every class is breath-centered, spacious, and rooted in care.

Alongside movement and stillness, we share contemplative wisdom traditions passed down for centuries — simple, time-tested practices that support you in feeling more steady, grounded, and whole.

All classes are offered online in real time — so you can practice in your coziest clothes, from your living room, your porch, or even your bed. You don’t need to be flexible or calm to begin. All you need is a little space, a soft place to land, and the willingness to begin.

Weekly Classes

Meditative Mat Flow

This nourishing practice blends gentle, flowing movement with breathwork, meditation, and mindful contemplation. Designed to nourish the body and steady the mind, this class invites you to move with ease, cultivate awareness, and find moments of deep connection with your truest wisdom. Contemplative philosophy is woven throughout so that each class explores a specific theme for a meditative yet energizing experience.

Grounded Chair Flow

This class will be very similar in structure to Meditative Mat Flow, with breath-guided, gentle movement, guided contemplation, and thematic exploration. Using the chair for support and stability, students can explore mindful flow with new awareness and more ease. This class is perfect for those who want the extra support of the chair or those who simply want a midday break without a wardrobe change.

Seated Meditation

Meditation offers many benefits, but building a consistent practice can be challenging on your own. These short yet effective sessions provide guided support in both classical and modern techniques, helping you stay focused and engaged. You'll practice alongside a supportive community and with practice you’ll be able to connect with the deep wisdom within you—the guide that is always with you.

All classes are led live on Zoom and recorded for on-demand access — so you can choose what fits your life and energy.

Somatic Movement

Somatic movements are designed to awaken our internal sense of movement from deep within the body. Too often, we move through life unconsciously—overworking certain areas while ignoring others. This imbalance can lead to tension, discomfort, or even pain. Somatic movement invites us to reawaken parts of ourselves that have been dormant or overlooked, helping to restore balance, ease, and a deeper connection to the whole self.

What students are saying

Being able to practice with Serena has been a great joy in my life. Her ability to guide classes with care and exploration nourished a much more expansive relationship to the practice for me. I especially delighted in her thematic approach to classes, combining elements of storytelling, yoga philosophy, and accessible practices.
— Veronica B.
Serena’s style of teaching yoga and meditation reflects who she is: thoughtful, compassionate, informed, sensitive to the needs of her students, graceful, and fun! I have learned so much from her, both about yoga/meditation and about myself. Being with Serena inspires me to be the best person I can be.
— Renee S.

 FAQs

  • All our classes and events take place on Zoom. To join, you'll need a tablet or computer that supports the latest version of Zoom. Download Zoom here.

If you enjoy listening to music during practice, we provide Spotify playlists. You may want to have Spotify installed as well. Get Spotify here.

  • As a first step, you should talk to your healthcare team about your condition as it relates to practicing yoga. Your team can provide you with any movement restrictions or cautions.

While in class, you should feel very free to modify the practice so that you feel comfortable in both your body and your mind. This might mean doing something different, doing less, or skipping a section of the practice altogether.

Yoga instructors are not qualified healthcare providers and cannot diagnose or treat any condition. Therefore, instructors’ cues are always suggestions. You know your body and your situation best. Please do what is right for you.

  • After registering for a class, you'll receive an email with the props needed. A yoga mat is always recommended for safety and comfort.

You can watch this video guiding you on how to set up your space (without spending a ton of money).

Here are some common props and household alternatives:

    • Yoga block → Thick book or chair

    • Yoga strap → Belt, robe tie, or towel

    • Blanket → Towel

    • Bolster → Pillows or rolled-up towels

    • Journal & pen

Props can be found online or in stores. For eco-friendly, affordable options, check out Yogamatters.

  • Yoga is not a form of qualified healthcare and does not diagnose, treat, or cure any medical condition.

Similarly, psychologically-sensitive and trauma-sensitive yoga are not substitutes for qualified mental healthcare. These terms simply mean that the practices are attuned in order to be more accessible for those who have experienced trauma.

We encourage all students to consult their healthcare providers before practicing and to modify movements and other practices as needed.

At Onward Light, we value science and recognize the essential role of Western healthcare. As yoga teachers, we work within our scope of practice, which is presenting general yoga teachings with the option to take what is useful and modify or leave what is not. Our hope is that yoga serves as a supportive complement to a well-rounded healthcare plan.

  • We’d be happy to help! Please email us at hello@onward.community. We can either correspond via email about your needs or schedule a short Zoom session to discuss what you’re looking for and what class might work best for you.

  • Yes and no. We don’t record live classes to protect students’ privacy and to keep the experience interactive. Since we focus on engagement during class, it’s harder to fully demo the sequence in real time as we would for a recorded session.

However, we know schedules can be tricky, so we provide a separate, pre-recorded version of each yoga or meditation class. It follows the same sequence, theme, and meditation as the live session.

Because this takes some time to edit, the recording will be available 48 hours after the live class.

If you want to take the class but can’t make the session time, go ahead register and the class will be sent to you within 48 hours after the session time.

  • Kindly give us an hour's notice if you need to cancel your registration to avoid a charge.

  • You will receive a message from hello@onward.community (please add this to your “safe senders” list in your email provider). The message will contain a link to the Zoom classroom. If you can’t find it, check your “junk” folder or reach out to us at hello@onward.community.
