Even Now, We Begin Again: Weekly Theme for March 17-26

Exploring Our First Weekly Theme at Onward Light

At Onward Light, each week of classes will center around a shared theme—a thread to guide our yoga and meditation practices and offer something to explore and contemplate, no matter the format.

This week, as we open the studio and welcome the first day of spring in the Northern Hemisphere, we begin with a theme close to my heart:
🌿 Even Now, We Begin Again.

Not all beginnings are born from ease or brilliance. Some beginnings start on hard ground—with heavy baggage, with weariness. And maybe that’s exactly where we find ourselves right now. In a world that feels uncertain, in a time that weighs heavily.

And yet still we continue. Still we look for wisdom. Still we hold each other in supportive community. This is how we begin again, even now. As Viktor Frankl said, “Say yes to live, in spite of everything.”

The Ice Cube and the Water

There’s a teaching from the contemplative tradition that speaks to this moment. It’s the analogy of water inside an ice cube.
Imagine: You’ve never seen an ice cube melt before, and you are in the desert, desperate for water. You come upon something you don’t recognize—a solid, heavy block. Perhaps you mistake it for a rock and keep searching. But if you carry it for a while, if you apply the warmth of your body and the light of the sun, you will start to see it change. It will melt. And soon, you realize: the water was there all along.
You didn’t need to search elsewhere.
And so your goal is not to find water somewhere else, but to find a way to melt the large cube that you already have.

And in this tradition, we don’t melt the ice with force. We don’t use a metaphorical flame thrower. We soften it with compassion. With tenderness. With lovingkindness. It’s through presence and care that we reveal the potential for our own deep wisdom to guide us onward.

Showing Up As You Are

This is not to say that you must arrive at practice in a particular way. You don’t have to bring calmness or certainty or a peppy grateful for everything attitude. No. Come as you are. Come authentically. That’s perfect.
All of you is welcome here.
All of you is welcome to be held in the container we create together.

My role as facilitator is to hold that container with presence and with care. Your role as practitioner is to show up as you are. Take what's useful, leave what's not, and be as kind and caring toward yourself as is possible

And the beautiful thing is: You don’t have to do this alone.
This is something we will do together, in a supportive, steady community.

Unlimited Chances to Begin Again

When we slow down and pay attention, we start to sense the freshness in each moment. We realize that we are always beginning again. That there are unlimited chances to soften, to return, to find wisdom, and to reconnect with the voice that knows what leads you onward.

As we open Onward Light’s doors this week—and step into the season of spring (at least up here in the North!)—we explore this theme together.
